NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that he will provide electricity subsidy only to those who want to stay in the national capital of Delhi.
The Declaration of Free and Electricity Subsidy is a hugely popular project of the Delhi government. However, the project will be optional in the face of intense criticism from political opponents. Free or subsidized electricity is only offered to those who ask. The Delhi Chief Minister said the new rule would come into effect from October 1.
If anyone considers himself to be competent, he can tell the Delhi government that he does not need any electricity subsidy and can use ordinary electricity. Asked about this, he said work would begin soon.
At present, the Delhi government is providing 200 units of electricity to the customers free of charge. 800 to 400 units per month would be Rs 800 per month. Subsidy is being offered.
Kejriwal’s free electricity and water project is considered to be the main reason for his huge victory in Delhi.
The Kejriwal government’s free electricity project has come under heavy criticism for the past few weeks due to a shortage of coal. Against this backdrop, the Delhi CM will decide on free electricity and electricity supply from October 1.
